An Asturleonese starting point

Asturias & León.
A region in motion.

Follow royal centres, books and assemblies across the mountains. Explore what changed in each place, with faith woven into the wider history.

Move through the story

Selected moments. Spacing shows steps, not elapsed time.

A schematic of places, not political borders. Dotted lines guide the eye between centres; they are not reconstructed roads.

Follow Oviedo

Moments in this tour that name this place:

842–850

A royal landscape around Oviedo

Under Ramiro I, the Naranco complex took shape near Oviedo. Santa María del Naranco began as a royal residence and was later adapted as a church.

What this changes in the regional story

Buildings preserve the presence of royal patronage. The same site can acquire a different use over time.

A small decision workshop · León, around 1080

A decree arrives.
What makes change possible?

Imagine helping a community prepare for Roman worship. You have four work tokens. Choose what to fund, then compare what your plan leaves ready or unresolved.

This is an invented simulation. Tokens are not medieval money or measured costs. Outcomes follow the rules below; they do not predict belief, loyalty or revolt. This workshop stays in León around 1080 while you explore other timeline moments.

Build your plan

4 of 4 work tokens remaining

Uncheck a choice to free its tokens. No single plan can fund everything.

Your plan’s consequences

In this teaching model:

Putting the service into practice

Neither a new service book nor rehearsal time is funded yet.

The older tradition

Your plan has not allocated work to keeping the older manuscript. The model leaves its future unresolved; it does not assume destruction.

Local voices

No meeting is included in this plan. The model tells us nothing about whether people support the change.

See the simulation rules

Four tokens; each action can be chosen once. Preparing a book costs two, and each other action costs one. A book plus rehearsal produces the “ready to practise” outcome. Keeping a manuscript preserves a reference; a meeting creates an opportunity to listen. Neither action establishes what people believe.

These values are design choices. No historical cost, probability or judgement of one rite’s value is implied. Changing a plan does not mark a lesson read or award an achievement.

Open the wider War Atlas

These entries are selected from the Atlas by recorded year and coordinates in a broad Iberian reading area (35–44° north, 10° west–4° east). The frame covers 842–1504. It establishes place and time, not an Asturleonese cause or religious affiliation.

How to read this first edition

Selected moments, not a continuous account of every century. Each historical stop links its sources. The map arranges named places schematically; it does not reconstruct borders or the distribution of belief. The workshop is an invented teaching exercise set in León around 1080.

Asturleonese is a regional and linguistic label. For worship history, start with the wider Old Hispanic tradition. A kingdom, a language and a rite answer different questions.

Claims kept outside the model

  • A single fixed Asturleonese faith: this tour does not turn a regional or game label into a separate historical denomination.
  • Instant religious conversion in 1080: liturgical reform does not establish a uniform change of personal belief.
  • Miraculous ordeals as a simulation mechanic: later stories about the change of rite need historical criticism.
  • Reconstructed borders, population shares and rebellion odds: the sources used here do not establish those quantities.

This first regional edition extends the original faith reading companion. Earlier readings remain available.
